Green light for Piccadilly line signalling

Listen to this article

A new Piccadilly line signalling control system is to be built at Hammersmith as part of the London Underground sub-surface line upgrade contract, due to be let within the next 3 months.

Transport for London realised that an opportunity existed to include this additional work in the SSL automatic train operation/control contract and by doing so would make the rail services more robust and increase efficiency. Although the Piccadilly line signalling centre may not be commissioned until the line is resignalled as part of a recently approved £7m resignalling scheme.

Although resignaling of the Piccadilly line is not expected to go ahead until approximately 2020, TfL is undertaking a feasibility study with a view to control being transferred to Hammersmith at the earliest opportunity.
