Work to increase car parking capacity at National Express East Anglia’s (NXEA) Diss station has commenced as part of a £400k investment to construct an additional 60 space surface car park at the station. This project is part of the company’s Service Improvement Plan to improve capacity on the East Anglia network through the introduction of additional train carriages and extra car parking at key locations.

The work at Diss fulfils a long-held aspiration to improve parking facilities at this key South Norfolk gateway on the Norwich to London intercity mainline.

Councillor Tony Palmer of South Norfolk Council and Councillor Jennifer Chamberlin of Norfolk County Council will formally commence the project at Diss station on Tuesday 25 January.

The construction of the new car park is being carried out by Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd. The additional 60 car parking spaces will increase the total capacity at Diss to 239 spaces. The project is scheduled for completion in March 2011 and is being managed to minimise any inconvenience to the existing car parking arrangements at the station while the work continues.

Mark Phillips, Deputy Managing Director of National Express East Anglia: “I am pleased that work is beginning to extend and improve the car park at Diss station. These improvements will be welcomed by our customers with the extra 60 car parking spaces making it easier to park at this busy station. The work at Diss is another key project in the NXEA Service Improvement Plan improving seating capacity and car parking.”
