Listen to this article

The Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai, have revealed figures of 332m passengers travelling on public transport in 2010. This is a significant jump from 2009, when the figure was just over 288m. This number is set to increase further with the completion of remaining metro stations on the Red Line. The Green Line will also be open for operation in August 2011, meaning more passengers are likely to use this method of transport.

Chairman of the Board, Mattar Al Tayor, said he aims to “raise the use of public transport by 30% in 2020.”

He stated that the Dubai Metro had just under 39m passengers in 2010 and that metro ridership is “set to receive a big boost in 2011 with the operation of the Green Line as it serves vital areas with bustling business and government activities.”
