EuroMaint Rail has been commissioned by Veolia Transport to carry out overhaul of 60 bogie sets for A32 trams operating on the Tvärbanan line in Stockholm.

Veolia Transport is responsible for traffic operating on the Tvärbanan, Nockebybanan, Saltsjöbanan and Lidingöbanan lines in Stockholm on behalf of SL (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik).

The assignment to overhaul the bogies on Tvärbanan’s A32 trams means that EuroMaint Rail will be performing a thorough examination of the bogies. Work will include everything from surface layer maintenance, such as blasting, painting and crack detection on frames, to more technical tasks, such as replacing motor bearings and reprocessing magnetic track brakes. Similar overhauls are performed roughly every ten years on this type of rolling stock and are the single largest maintenance measure for drive bogies.

“We are extremely proud to have been entrusted with this assignment by Veolia Transport, as it is our first major overhaul project for this type of rolling stock and a significant order for this customer. With our help these trams can remain in service for many years to come,” says Petter Arvidson, acting CEO of EuroMaint Rail.

“The bogies on an A32 are particularly compact and demanding. In order to be able to maintain Veolia’s high-quality service in the field of public transport, there needs to be close cooperation and detailed planning as regards the supply and return of bogies,” explains Andreas Johansson, Project Manager for Veolia Transport.

The overhauls will be carried out in series, which is an effective way of working, as the same actions are performed on several bogies at the same time, helping to minimise lead times.

Work is scheduled to commence in May this year at EuroMaint Rail’s workshops in Örebro and Ã…mÃ¥l. Final delivery is expected to take place in January 2013.
