Jim Tyers, a volunteer at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway has won an award from the Institute of Railway Signalling Engineers.
Involved with the heritage steam railway since he was 14 Jim Tyers now 27 works as a signalman on the national rail network and is based at Barnetby East signal box on the Grimsby – Scunthorpe line. Despite having no formal S & T training, Jim renovated and installed signaling equipment himself along the heritage line between Ludborough and North Thoresby.
‘The IRSE Award recognises the considerable efforts made by Jim in the development and restoration of the signalling systems at the LWR,’ says director Gordon Newton. ‘We are all justifiably proud of him for winning this National Award.’
