Wabtec Rail announces acquisition of Brush Traction Group

Listen to this article

Wabtec Rail has announced the acquisition of Brush Traction Group, including the Brush Traction facilities at Loughborough and Brush Barclay at Kilmarnock. The Brush name has been synonymous with quality engineering and the supply of railway equipment since 1865. The company has produced state-of-the-art locomotives and propulsion systems for passenger carrying vehicles worldwide for many years.

Wabtec Rail sees the acquisition as the broadening of the range of services that it is now able to offer its customers. The addition of the Brush Traction expertise in mainline locomotives, power units, traction motors and electrical control systems complements Wabtec Rail’s expertise in passenger rolling stock maintenance and refurbishment, freight wagon maintenance and wheelset, bogies, brake equipment and HVAC overhauls. By combining these areas of expertise the new Wabtec Rail Group of companies can offer rolling stock owners and train operators a range of services the covers all aspects of railway rolling stock maintenance, overhaul and refurbishment.

In addition, the acquisition of the Brush Barclay facility at Kilmarnock will broaden the nationwide coverage of Wabtec Rail by providing a base to better support the trains operating in Scotland and Northern England.

To reflect the new ownership, Brush Traction at Loughborough will be known as ‘Brush Traction – Part of the Wabtec Rail Group’, with the Brush Barclay Kilmarnock Works becoming ‘Wabtec Rail Scotland’.
