Rail disruption hits East Coast after body found

Listen to this article

Rail services were severely disrupted last night after reports surfaced that a body had been found on tracks just north of Grantham.

Passengers faced delays of up to 2.5 hours travelling between Doncaster and London’s Kings Cross. A body was found at 4pm which caused the line to be closed in both directions with no other route available for services to travel on.

Other train operators including East Midlands Trains and Virgin were accepting East Coast ticket holders onto their services last night, although this caused major delays for their own passengers.

One commuter travelling with East Midlands Trains from St Pancras said: “My usual train was completely full with nowhere to even stand due to the amount of East Coast passengers using the service. We had to wait for the next train where we still couldn’t get a seat.”

Most services were running on schedule this morning, although a few early morning trains travelling from Scotland to Kings Cross were cancelled.
