Passengers travelling from Skegness are now benefitting from significantly improved information about their East Midlands Trains’ service, following the installation of new Customer Information Screens (CIS) at the station.
The improvements at Skegness, which are part of a wider £2.2 million project being delivered by East Midlands Trains and Network Rail to improve customer information, mean that passengers now have fast and easy access to real-time live information about their train.
The five new customer information screens at Skegness are linked through to East Midlands Trains’ Control Centre in Derby, which means the information is constantly being updated to ensure passengers get an accurate picture of their train’s departure.
Rob Mason, Customer Information Manager for East Midlands Trains, said:
“The new screens, which use the latest digital technology, will make a huge difference for passengers travelling from Skegness.
“As the CIS screens are linked through to our control centre, our team will be able to keep them constantly updated with the latest information, meaning that passengers can easily keep a check of their train’s departure time.
“Every summer we see thousands of passengers travelling through Skegness, and we know how important it is to keep them all up to date. The new CIS screens will enhance the information provided by our station staff and should make it much easier and clearer for our passengers.”
Kevin Preece, Area General Manager for Network Rail, said:
“We know that getting timely, accurate information to passengers is a crucial part of their journey. This investment with East Midlands Trains will allow us to keep passengers better informed, allowing them to plan their journey more accurately.”
To further improve the level of information for passengers, a new automated PA system is also being installed at Skegness using text to speech technology.
A number of other stations in the Lincolnshire area will also benefit from the new real-time customer information screens including Boston which has now also been completed and has three new CIS as well as Spalding, Lincoln, Wainfleet, Sleaford and Gainsborough.
The CIS investment programme is part of a £10 million investment by East Midlands Trains to deliver station improvements for passengers.
