Eurostar, the high speed passenger service between the UK and mainland Europe has reported an 8%1 surge in outbound bookings for Easter bank holiday weekend, compared to the same Easter weekend last year.

Thousands of people from across the UK are expected to travel with Eurostar this weekend to France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany for a spring break.

As the ‘great Easter getaway’ gets underway, Eurostar has also seen a surge in inbound bookings to London for the royal wedding – making this a ‘honeymoon’ period for the travel industry.

Nick Mercer, Commercial Director for Eurostar said:

“We’re expecting this to be our busiest Easter weekend for years with tens of thousands of people travelling on Eurostar for a weekend away.

“Paris, Brussels and Disneyland Paris remain amongst our most popular destinations for short breaks, but Amsterdam, Cologne and Marseille are increasing in popularity as more people take advantage of fast connecting high speed rail services to travel further with us.

“At the same time we’re equally seeing a surge in bookings to London for the royal wedding weekend. We’re expecting thousands of Europeans to travel to London with Eurostar to see Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot, as London prepares for royal wedding fever.”
