Commuters urged to prepare now ahead of tube strikes

London commuters have been urged to prepare for the upcoming strikes announced yesterday by the RMT.

David James, CEO of mxData, creators of the Tube Map app, said:

“London’s commuters must prepare for the strikes so as not to be caught out. If they go ahead there will be severe disruptions to London’s entire transport system as commuters and travellers spill out onto the city’s streets.

“The capital’s buses are simply not designed to cope with the thousands of extra people trying to use its service, whilst available taxis are likely to be few and far between.

“Our message is to keep informed of planned tube closures, work your route out in advance, check for live travel updates and avoid unnecessary travel. If your route is looking particularly disrupted, find out the viability of working from home. It might be more productive than spending hours walking to work or waiting for overcrowded buses.

“We know that people are most likely to use our Tube Map app when trying to find an alternative route. The daily commute is a routine journey so we are predicting some big rises in usage as the strikes force workers to change habits.”

mxData’s Tube Map app allows users to plan their journey and access live information about the tube network.
