Pupils from Nutgrove Primary School in St Helens, Merseyside are celebrating their artistic efforts on display at Thatto Heath station.

The initiative was run in conjunction with British Transport Police Community Support Officers and Northern Rail, to encourage people to be aware of the dangers of playing or trespassing near the railway.

200 children from the primary school took part, with 7 winning artwork creations now on display on the south-bound platform.

Gary Abernethy, Station Manager for Northern Rail, comments:

“We were delighted to partner with Police Community Support Officers to highlight the issues we face on our railways. We see a lot of trespassing in this area and the children have done a fantastic job of highlighting the dangers of this.”

Louisa Chamberlain, senior administrator at Nutgrove Primary School, comments:

“The children have thoroughly enjoyed this project. Not only has it let their artistic juices flow, but has also really hammered home the message of safety on the railway.”

“The children were all given free travel to Liverpool, with a trip on the ferry, for their efforts, which obviously gave them a great day out!”

Sue Inger, BTP PCSO, said: “It’s amazing to see how the children have transformed the talk we gave them about rail safety into stunning pieces of art.

“Everyone in Thatto Heath should now be justifiably proud of their station and the effort the children have put in.”

The artwork will be on display for the foreseeable future.
