Last night hundreds of passengers were stuck on a train for ‘nearly 3 hours following electrical supply problems’.

The First Capital Connect train stopped just outside Kentish Town station at 18:30 and was towed back to the station at 21:15.

The train company’s Twitter feed said there was no power on the line and Network Rail were inspecting the track for damage which held up the train.

After angry replies from passengers, the TOC said staff were waiting at Kentish Town with water after what one passenger described as ‘a hideous commute’.

National Rail said limited services were running and severe delays would continue into the early hours.

First Capital Connect said:

“We’d like to sincerely apologise to any customers who experienced delays on the evening of Thursday 26th May. Overhead line problems caused a train to fail near Kentish Town which caused major delays throughout the evening for our Thameslink route customers.

“A full investigation by Network Rail and First Capital Connect will be carried out. This will be led by FCC’s managing director and once complete the details will be made available to customers.”

Passengers wrote on Twitter that they had been stuck in a tunnel with no water, air conditioning or communication.

Some also complained that no First Capital Connect staff were available at Kentish Town once they had got off the train.

One passenger said the train had been ‘packed like sardines’ and it was ‘utter chaos’.

People tried to walk down the track after a while due to lack of communication which caused further problems.

Commuters were further angered when the FCC twitter account then went on to say they were ‘tweeting from Pizza Express’…
