It has been reported that Qatar plans to offer the first tender for its ‘railway and metro system in the next three months’.

Qatar’s rail plans are set to be complete by 2020, in time for the World Cup being hosted there in 2022.

Preliminary designs have already ‘been prepared’, Abdullah al-Subaie, managing director of the Qatar Railways Company, said on Qatar’s state news agency.

Subaie said the contracts would include a tender for ‘digging tunnels and setting up stations for the network’.

He urged Qatari companies to build partnerships with international firms to work on the construction of the project.
