In response to the Government’s announcement on new train carriages for Thameslink route, Passenger Focus have said they ‘welcomes the announcement’.

Anthony Smith, Passenger Focus chief executive, said:

Passengers will welcome today’s order for 1200 new carriages, destined for overcrowded Thameslink routes.

“This investment will also mean existing Thameslink carriages can be used elsewhere on the network.

“While beleaguered Thameslink commuters using First Capital Connect services can breathe a sigh of relief that their journeys will improve, they will still have to wait a few years before the first carriages arrive.

“The National Passenger Survey reveals the current service falls well below the average satisfaction rating for the railway network at 76% overall satisfaction.

“In the meantime there are a number of areas where First Capital Connect could improve the experience with better upkeep of  the current trains, better provision of information and more visible staff.”
