Armed Forces travel free on Metrolink this Saturday in Manchester

Listen to this article

Members and veterans of the Armed Forces can travel free on Greater Manchester’s Metrolink trams this Saturday 25 June in celebration of Armed Forces Day.

Anyone who is serving or has served in the Armed Forces will just need to show their Armed Forces ID or veteran’s badge on board the tram when requested.

The offer means that members of the Armed Forces will be able to use the tram to travel free in and around the city centre on Saturday, where there will be Armed Forces Day events and entertainment all day at Piccadilly Gardens, as well as lots of special offers and discounts for them in shops, cafes, restaurants and visitor attractions.

Armed Forces Day is a national event held every year to honour those who are serving or have ever served in the Armed Forces.

Philip Purdy, Transport for Greater Manchester’s Metrolink Director, said:

“We’re pleased to offer free tram travel to serving members and veterans of the Armed Forces on Saturday.

“The offer will apply from the first services of the morning to the last services at night on all Metrolink lines.

“This means that members of the Armed Forces can travel free by tram into Manchester city centre for the Armed Forces Day events there – but as the offer applies right across the network, they can also use their Armed Forces ID or veteran’s badge to take the tram to other locations if they prefer.

“We hope that lots of past and present members of the Armed Forces will take advantage of the offer and enjoy the day.”
