Translink and Graham Construction recently welcomed Conall McDevitt MLA and Alderman Tom Ekin to the construction site of the new train maintenance facility at Adelaide.

The South Belfast representatives were briefed on the project developments for the facility which will play a vital role in maintaining 20 new trains currently being delivered.

It will provide engineering workshops, a train wash, fuelling and train stabilising facilities all easily accessible on one site.

Representatives were also informed that some night time work is underway and weekend line closures will be taking place.

The night work is required to carry-out ‘ducting’ – pipe work laid underground to carry signalling cables – that will enable the existing railway line to serve the new train maintenance facility.

Both Translink and Graham Construction have contacted local households directly to inform them about the night work.

The new facility will operate in conjunction with existing maintenance facilities based at York Road and the Fortwilliam area of North Belfast that are currently operating at or near to full capacity.
