First Great Western has welcomed the Department for Transport’s announcement confirming provision of additional train carriages for the Bristol area.
The news will see more than 900 additional seats at peak times across the city, and is great news for customers in the area.
First Great Western Deputy Managing Director, Andy Mellors said:
“This is great news for our customers in the Bristol Area and a step forward to helping address the capacity issues created by the popularity of our services across the south west.
“With support from Members of Parliament, local authorities and other key partners we have been in discussions with the Department for Transport for some time about the need for this capacity, and we are delighted these have come to fruition.”
Why are you showing HSTs in the picture ? The extra carriages will not be HSTs but just old 1980s DMU carriages reaching the end of their life that have been cascaded down from another Operator because it has received new carriages.
Better than nothing, that’s true, but hardly news that is going to bring much rejoicing to the streets of Bristol.
Excellent, the extra seats will certainly help. The trains will no longer be ludicrously overcrowded… now they will just be plain overcrowded.
