Union Pacific’s Heritage Locomotive Fleet Program was selected as a winner of the 2011 Brunel Awards International Railway Design Competition.
The fleet represented the United States in the category of  ‘Industrial Design, Corporate Branding, Graphics, and Furnishings.’
“Receiving international acclaim for the Heritage Locomotive Fleet Program is a great honour,” said Robert W. Turner, Senior Vice President – Corporate Relations.
“As we approach our 150th anniversary, it is important to be aware of our storied heritage and the many lines that contributed to making Union Pacific North America’s iconic railroad.
“Our investment in the Heritage Locomotive Program is an effort to recognise this legacy and maintain employee pride in these railroads.”
Union Pacific unveiled the Heritage Locomotive Fleet Program in 2005.
The locomotives in the fleet each feature a distinctive paint scheme that incorporates elements of one of the six major railroads that merged with Union Pacific over the company’s history.
Union Pacific’s commitment to maintaining awareness and pride in these railroads impressed the Brunel selection committee.
The Brunel Awards International Railway Design Competition is a prestigious contest in which a jury of internationally renowned leaders in the area of rail design and engineering evaluate the applicants.
They received nearly 150 entries worldwide, which were narrowed to 19 award recipients in five categories.
