Police exercise at Marylebone station

The British Transport Police are taking advantage of the closure of Marylebone mainline station today to help train their explosives search dog teams.

A spokesman said: “This is purely a training exercise. It will involve a planned evacuation of some staff followed by a search.

“We undertook a similar exercise last year on London Overground when their tracks were closed for engineering work. It is very valuable for our search officers, handlers and dogs to be able to exercise in the sort of real environments they will have to operate in if there is an alert.

“People may notice unusually large numbers of police officers and vehicles in the area, but this is nothing to worry about, it is simply an exercise.”

Whilst the mainline station is closed as part of Chiltern Railways’ Chiltern Mainline upgrade project, Marylebone Underground station will remain open and passengers will be able to exit via the station concourse.
