Through its subsidiary Ansaldo STS Deutschland, Ansaldo STS has been awarded a contract worth €13.79 million by Deutsche Bahn AG for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of ERTMS/ETCS level 2 signalling systems on the railway line linking Rostock and Berlin.

This line connects Rostock, one of Germany’s biggest ports, to the top priority project, or axis, linking Berlin to Verona/Milan, Bologna, Naples, Messina and Palermo, which forms part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

This is the first project agreed under the ETCS level 2 framework agreement signed by Ansaldo STS Deutschland and Deutsche Bahn AG in 2011, and the second major contract awarded to Ansaldo STS by Deutsche Bahn to build ETCS level 2 systems in Germany.

The awarding of this contract by Deutsche Bahn AG strengthens the strategic position of Ansaldo STS on the German market.

Deutsche Bahn AG owns the largest rail network in Europe, and the creation of four rail corridors in Germany using interoperable ERTMS/ETCS technology is currently planned at European level.
