Daily commute leaves Londoners love struck

mxData, creator of Tube Map app, recently asked 2,628 regular Underground commuters a range of questions on the theme of love and found that the London Underground is packed with people checking each other out, with the Central Line being the place to head to if you’re looking for the best looking travellers.

David James, CEO, mxData, a provider of mobile location services, said:

“The London Underground is a huge part of the lives of the capital’s commuters. Whether they love or loathe it, three million people use it every day so it’s no wonder that people are using the daily grind to let their eyes and minds wander.”

In a bid to help things along, mxData has created a site which aims to help people find those they have seen on the Tube network, which can be found here.

The Tube Map app creator is inviting Londoners to pluck up the courage to post messages to men and women who they have found attractive on the Tube.

Brett Harding, managing director of Lovestruck.com, London’s leading dating service for single professionals, said:

“London’s tube network offers a plethora of opportunities to spot attractive people, but a carriage full of silent ‘observers’ makes approaching someone risky for fear of looking a fool.

“Nine per cent of our male members admit to searching our site to find someone they have spotted and seven per cent of those have been successful.”

Love on the Underground

  • Nearly half (47%) of London’s commuters see someone who catches their eye on the Tube at least once a week, with 10% seeing someone every day
  • Of the two sexes, it seems that men are the keenest with two thirds (65%) fancying someone on the Underground at least once a week and a staggering 16% fancying someone every day
  • Women are more slightly more discerning, with a third (34%) finding someone who catches their eye each week
  • When asked what is the best thing that could possibly happen on their regular commute, 14% overall (and a fifth of men) felt that nothing could beat catching the eye of an attractive stranger
  • Underground dating is taking off as 10% of Londoners admit to being asked out when commuting.
