Network Rail has announced that it’s new national centre in Milton Keynes will be known as The Quadrant: MK.
Network Rail’s executive approved the name this week following a company-wide competition which attracted hundreds of entries from employees around the country, many of whom are either based in Milton Keynes already or will be moving to the city over the course of the coming year.
Network Rail marked the naming of the new building with a special behind-the-scenes tour for the two employees who suggested the winning name.
Jacqui Wimbush is a team organiser at Network Rail’s Milton Keynes Central offices and lives in Brixworth in Northamptonshire. She is looking forward to moving to the new building when it opens in 2012.
“I’m really excited that the name I put forward has been chosen and having the chance to get a personal tour of the site before it is open is a real treat,” she said.
Diane Ritchie is a service manager in Network Rail’s telecoms team and is based near Euston station in London.
“The building is a lot bigger than I thought it would be and I’m really impressed with the main ‘street’ through the building.”
The Quadrant: MK opens its doors next summer and by autumn 2012 nearly 3,000 Network Rail people will be based there, working across a number of functions including project management, finance, human resources, procurement and property.
Tim Coucher, Network Rail programme director for the national centre project, said:
“I’m confident The Quadrant: MK will be a place which inspires our people and I know it will be a fabulous place to work.
“We’ve managed to combine cutting-edge design with the latest in environmentally friendly features, culminating in a light, bridge, energy-efficient building of which Network Rail and Milton Keynes can be proud.”

a poor name with such lack of imagination for a fabulous building.

Doesnt matter what the rail network is like does it as long as the staff have somewhere nice to work. Lets spend money on posh new offices rather than wasting it on a better network. 😉
