VolkerRail has been awarded the design and build contract for the Tranche 7 Level Crossing Renewals by Network Rail.

The project involves the renewal of four life expired level crossings in the London North East (LNE) region.

The four level crossings, situated in Yorkshire and Humberside, will all require equipment renewal, with three being full renewals of all associated infrastructure including new predictor equipment housed in a new REB, upgrade of track circuits and provision of predictor systems.

Steve Sorby, SPC Manager at VolkerRail, said:

“Our specialist teams will be working on these renewals simultaneously; they will work transiently across the four sites to ensure that the various specialist skills are available during the appropriate time in the programming schedule, whilst providing flexibility to our client.

“This sort of project suits VolkerRail as we are able to hand pick our project teams from our in-house skills base, providing total project management to the client. This project draws upon our signalling, M&E, permanent way and civils capabilities.”

Design work is currently underway with decommissioning works due to start from March 2012 with a completion date of June 2012.
