With the public consultation on plans for a new Metrolink line through Manchester city centre drawing to a close this week, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is urging people to have their say on the proposals before it’s too late.

TfGM’s consultation on the second city Metrolink crossing ends tomorrow, Friday 9 September and TfGM is encouraging people to share their views on the plans while there is still time.

TfGM’s Metrolink Director, Philip Purdy, explained:

“It’s essential we build a second city line as part of Metrolink’s overall expansion it will give Metrolink the capacity, flexibility and reliability that passengers need as the network trebles in size over the next five years.

“The second city crossing will also not only increase operational capacity for the current Metrolink expansion but also for future extensions, as well as improving reliability and increasing flexibility during special events in the city.

“The public consultation on the new line is closing on Friday so I would encourage anyone who hasn’t already responded to get in touch with their views as soon as possible, by emailing or writing to us.”

Under the proposals, a second city Metrolink line will run from the Deansgate-Castlefield stop, through St Peter’s Square, along Princess Street, Cross Street and Corporation Street to re-join the existing Metrolink line just outside Victoria Station.
