South West Trains’ graduate managers have successfully completed the train operating company’s graduate development programme this week.
Graduates Sam Woolley, Rachel Vardy and Joe Parish successfully completed the training scheme and were able to share their experiences and anecdotes during the grand presentation with members of South West Trains executive management.
The graduates all received certificates in recognition of this major milestone in their career development.
South West Trains’ graduate training scheme involved a combination of theoretical and hands-on experience.
Each graduate spent time in a variety of South West Trains departments finding out about all aspects of the train operator’s aspects including customer service, sales and marketing, pricing and ticketing, network and schedule planning, finance and human resources.
This approach has ‘proved to be very successful within the company and continues to be so’, South West Trains said.
Presenting the graduates with their certificate, Andy Pitt, Managing Director for South West Trains, commented:
“Each of the three graduate managers has demonstrated tremendous drive and ambition during the last year.
“This is a very proud moment for everyone at South West Trains as they complete their training and join the front line across our network.
“The transport industry plays a vital role in keeping the economy moving. It is imperative therefore that we attract talented, enthusiastic people to our industry.
“We’ve seen some outstanding candidates for these roles. It’s been a rigorous and challenging selection process and I’m confident we have the right people to take up the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
One of the successful graduates, Sam Woolley said:
“The last year has been all-embracing, with South West Trains providing me with challenging opportunities, whilst encompassing full support. This experience has provided me with a secure foundation from which to further develop my career within South West Trains.”
Recognising that the graduates of today are the future of tomorrow, South West Trains will recruit six new graduates in the coming months as part of its graduate recruitment and training programme.
All three graduates have now taken up a variety of management positions across the company.
