DB Schenker Rail UK wins three Rail Freight Group Awards

DB Schenker Rail UK won three major Rail Freight Group Awards presented in Oxford on the evening of Tuesday 13 September 2011.

The Rail Freight Group Awards celebrate the best in innovation and achievement in the rail freight sector over the last year.

The work by DB Schenker Rail to modify the Class 92 locomotive to enable it to operate on the High Speed 1 rail route, and thereby open the UK to European sized freight trains, won the Technical Development Award.

Neil Thompson, a Production Manager from Thornaby for DB Schenker Rail, won the Outstanding Individual Contribution Award for his inspirational approach in delivering customer service.

DB Schenker Rail UK won the Runner Up award for Business of the Year, due to its work on enhancing customer service, winning new traffic to the railway and in enabling European sized rail freight to use High Speed 1.

Alain Thauvette, Chief Executive of DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd, said:

“These three awards underline a year where we have sought to enhance customer service while growing total freight volumes by attracting new markets to rail.

“I am delighted that the team behind the technically challenging work to modify the Class 92 locomotive for High Speed 1 operations has been recognised as this represents one of the biggest growth opportunities for UK rail freight in years.

“I am also pleased that Neil Thompson’s outstanding level of customer service in the Thornaby area has been recognised, representing as he does the standard of service our people consistently give our customers.
