Welsh rail partnerships have scooped five awards at the recent Association of Community Rail Partnerships Awards held in Sheffield.

The first prize for ‘Best Station Garden’ was won by Dolwyddelan (Cylch yr Ifanc/Circle of Youth).

The award was received by Councillor Liz Roberts and Anna Hughes in addition to a cheque for £200.

The group care for the impressive gardens that welcome passengers and visitors to the village, which is situated on the Conwy Valley Line.

The Heart of Wales Community Rail Partnership received first prize in the ‘Station Development’ category for the re-development of Llandovery station.

Managed by the ‘Friends of Llandovery Station’, the old station waiting room has been substantially refurbished to create a new waiting room and refreshment facility, which was officially opened in June by HRH Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

The Borderlands Community Rail Partnership in north east Wales received a second place for the Shotton Travel Plan in the ‘Local Transport Integration’ class.

Station agent Severn Dee Travel at Gobowen received a second place in the ‘Best retail outlet’ category for the Gobowen Station Café.

Arriva Trains Wales and the Welsh Government were awarded second place in the ‘Outstanding Teamwork” category for the Easier Access Programme to Stations.

Commenting on the awards, Ian Bullock, Customer Services Director said:

“These awards are shining examples of community rail partnerships working closely with local people and it’s wonderful that the awards have recognised the work that members of the community have put into improving Dolwyddelan, Llandovery and Gobowen stations.

“They are great news for both residents and visitors to the area and will help to promote some of the beautiful places to visit around Wales and borders.”
