British Transport Police (BTP) is sending a warning after a laser pen was deliberately shone in the eyes of a train driver travelling near to Gainsborough railway station on Friday 14 October.

Officers were called to the incident which took place near Marshalls Rise just outside the railway station.

PC George Shaw said:

“The driver reported a green light, believed to have been coming from a laser pen, being shone in his eyes from a housing development near Marshalls Rise.

“This not only caused a distraction to the driver but could have had serious safety consequences. The driver’s attention was averted from his job of safely controlling the train.

“As a result, trains were placed on caution as they travelled through the area causing unnecessary delays to passengers.”

Officers attended and searched the nearby area but to no avail.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 quoting incident 755 of 14/10/2011. Information can also be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
