East Midlands Trains has confirmed that a new morning commuter service for passengers travelling from Ambergate, Belper and Duffield will be introduced on Monday 12 December.

The new service will depart from Ambergate at 06.56, and will call at Belper at 07.01, and Duffield at 07.05, arriving into Derby at 07.13.

This means that for the first time, commuters from these three Derbyshire communities will have a choice of three morning peak trains between 06.30 and 08.00 for their journey to work or college.

This new train service will also provide good connections at Derby with the 07.20 to Leicester and London St. Pancras, 07.27 to Birmingham New Street and 07.33 to Nottingham.

David Horne, Managing Director for East Midlands Trains, said:

“Over the last four years, we’ve put a real focus on improving services on this route and passengers are now benefitting from an hourly service throughout the day, refurbished trains and better connections with services to London.

“As a result of the improvements made, the Derwent Valley Line has become one of the fastest growing railway lines in the country, and we want to keep on encouraging more people to travel by train.

“We know from feedback however that people want a greater choice of morning services to travel to work and connect with other services, so we’re really pleased to be introducing this additional service from December.”

Alastair Morley from the Derwent Valley Line Community Rail Partnership added:

“I am sure this extra service will be very welcomed by local people. From our passenger surveys it is clear that commuters appreciate the fast journey times into Derby and that the train service offers value for money, in comparison to travelling by car.

“There are also a significant number of commuters who travel beyond Derby to other destinations and this service will provide even more options for these passengers to connect to other trains at Derby.”
