First Capital Connect teamed up with the British Transport Police last week to send a warning to those who commit crime on the line in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
On Friday, 4 November officers from BTP and staff from FCC team were on late-night St Pancras to Bedford services promoting safety and crime prevention tips and ensuring the crime levels stay low.
The event formed part of a series of crime roadshows that FCC and the BTP have been carrying out over the past 6 months.
In 2010/2011 crime on FCC’s network had reduced by 15% compared to the previous year.
Vehicle crime has also reduced from 241 offences to just 87. First Capital Connect has also been securing its network with investment in CCTV and a further £1m investment in additional visible policing.
Tony Holland, FCC’s Crime Prevention Manager, said:
“Customer safety is one of our biggest priorities and I am pleased with the feedback received from the past crime roadshows at our stations.
“However as one of the few train operating companies that operate a 24 hour service we would also like to advise those customers travelling on late night services on how to stay safe and to avoid becoming a victim of opportunistic crime, especially with the Christmas celebrations fast approaching.”
Sergeant Ben Roberts, who heads the BTP team dedicated to policing the FCC line, said:
“Generally crime on the rail network across the UK is very low, and this operation is part of a wider response to crime encompassing anti-social behaviour, theft of passenger property and staff assaults.
“We want to send the message that it simply won’t be tolerated here.”
