ScotRail customers in Bishopbriggs and Lenzie can now switch to SmartCard tickets.
New scanners at the stations allow monthly and weekly season ticket holders travelling to any station between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh via Falkirk High to take advantage of the train operator’s new ticketing technology.
SmartCard holders can start and complete their journey in two ways: by ‘passing’ their card over the yellow circle on automatic ticket gates or by using the platform scanners.
Currently, season tickets can be purchased from ticket vending machines which have been upgraded to accept SmartCards. And by early 2012, customers will also be able to buy or renew online.
Graeme Macfarlan, marketing manager at ScotRail, said:
“We hope that our customers in Bishopbriggs and Lenzie will snap up a SmartCard. People who already have one tell us it’s really convenient and much easier to buy tickets.”
SmartCard season tickets cost exactly the same as paper versions.
