Momentum builds for Infrarail 2012

Listen to this article

Exhibitor numbers are building for Infrarail 2012, the essential event for everyone involved in railway infrastructure.

Taking place in Hall 3 at the UK’s National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham from 1 to 3 May 2012, the event has already attracted many leading companies supplying systems and services for track construction and maintenance, signalling and communications, electrification and railway civil engineering.

Also represented are suppliers of plant, station equipment, cable systems and rail vehicle maintenance technology, plus providers of specialist services such as recruitment and occupational healthcare.

A major feature introduced for the first time at next year’s show will be an exhibition display area dedicated to plant and machinery used for rail construction and maintenance.

Dubbed ‘The Yard’, this is being staged in close collaboration with the Rail Plant Association and with the endorsement of Network Rail.

It will be in addition to the On Track Display that is a familiar feature of both Infrarail and Railtex as a showcase for smaller items of track plant, tools and equipment.

And Infrarail will again provide opportunities for participants to learn more about technological developments and to catch the mood of the market.

Planned highlights of the event include an extensive programme of free drop-in seminars, Meet the Buyer sessions and the ever popular Networking Reception on the opening day.

Offering further chances to engage with industry colleagues will be the Infrarail Awards Dinner, first introduced at Infrarail 2010 to recognise exhibitor achievements and successes. This will take place at the NEC on the middle day of the show, 2 May.

Infrarail 2012 is supported strongly by Network Rail and is also endorsed by the Railway Industry Association, the Rail Alliance, the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers and the Permanent Way Institution, as well as by the Rail Plant Association.

Next year’s event will be the ninth in this successful series of Mack Brooks events for the rail infrastructure sector in the UK. The last Infrarail show in 2010 saw a 5% increase in visitor numbers to more than 4,500, and rise of 17% in the number of exhibitors to 239.

Visitor enquiries are already flooding in, despite the fact that visitor registration does not open for another 3 months.

A new Exhibition Manager, Heidi Cotsworth, has also been appointed for Mack Brooks’ two UK rail shows, Infrarail and Railtex.

She brings with her over 10 years’ experience of organising high-profile events, from seminars to annual conferences and gala dinners.

Heidi succeeds Michael Wilton, who has been promoted to Exhibition Director to take overall responsibility for a group of Mack Brooks events that includes both Infrarail and Railtex.

Heidi says: “I am looking forward to this new challenge and to meeting all those people in the rail industry that contribute to the great success of Infrarail and Railtex.”
