British Transport Police (BTP) detectives are continuing their investigation after a member of rail staff was threatened with a meat cleaver.

Investigators have released CCTV of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident which took place on Thursday, 20 October.

Detective Constable Ian Grice, of BTP, said:

“At around 10pm, a train guard asked a passenger for his ticket as he travelled onboard the 8.45pm Leeds to London Kings Cross service

“The man became aggressive and took a meat cleaver from the back of his trousers before pointing it at the guard, threatening him with it if he attempted called the police.”

It is thought that the man escaped from the train after it arrived at Grantham railway station.

DC Hunt continued: “After an initial appeal for information, we have seized hours of CCTV footage and are today releasing an image of a man who we would like to identify in connection with the incident.

“This was a very unpleasant and intimidating experience for the member of staff, who had rightly asked the man for his ticket.

“Nobody should have to encounter threats of this kind for simply doing their job and I am asking anyone with any information that could assist our investigation to come forward.

“Officers are making local enquiries, including speaking to witnesses, and would like to hear from anyone with information about what took place.”

Anyone with information should contact BTP on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 quoting incident B6/NEA of 10/11/2011 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
