Punctuality on the railways fell to 89.3% during Period 8, according to monthly performance data released today by Network Rail.

Period 7 saw 91.5% of trains running on time.

The data for Britain’s train services covers the Period from 16 October 2011 – 12 November 2011.

Compared to the same period last year, however, the figures are up 2.8% from 86.5%. The moving annual average is now at 90.6%.

The best performing train operator was c2c, who have regularly featured as the frontrunners, with 97.8% of their services running on time.

London Overground performed well again, with 96.2% of their services running on time.

The worst performing train operator was Virgin Trains, who ran only 77.5% of services within the scheduled times. This has been blamed on ‘infrastructure problems’ and major cable thefts.
