Electrifying Adelaide’s railways with ComplyPro

Construction solutions provider Laing O’Rourke has chosen ComplyPro to manage its project compliance and assurance needs for the Adelaide Electrification Project; a project to electrify over 100 km of train line between Adelaide, Seaford, Gawler and Outer Harbor.

The project is part of a $2.6 billion programme of works over ten years to transform Adelaide’s network into a vibrant, state of the art and sustainable system, providing faster, cleaner, more frequent and efficient services for commuters.

The electrification project by the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure will see a major overhaul of South Australia’s passenger rail network and is one of the most complex undertaken by the South Australian government.

Laing O’Rourke is one of a group of major contractors who have been awarded an element of the project.

Their section of the project concentrates on installing the concrete masts, overhead wiring, communications, signalling, earthing and bonding for the length of the tracks.

The need for a specialist project assurance system such as ComplyPro arose due to the complexities of the project.

The initial project specification included five thousand requirements and these were being added to and constantly amended.

With multiple contractors working simultaneously on the project, it is imperative that all contractors are working to the correct version of the specification whilst managing any hazards or risks.

The ComplyPro solution ensures collaborative working on large scale programmes of work and is particularly effective when dealing with multiple project teams in disparate locations.

ComplyPro will work with Laing O’Rourke to handle the specification development throughout the project, ensuring the teams are always viewing the latest version. ComplyPro will ensure that all of the project requirements are proactively recorded, managed and assured throughout the project lifecycle.

A key feature of ComplyPro is it’s Hazard Management process.

Laing O’Rourke will easily link each requirement to the risk and hazard controls that are required to ensure that there is no risk to the contractors working on the project – or to the general public once the project is completed; a key consideration for a project of this magnitude.

Another major benefit of using ComplyPro is having all regulatory and specification requirements recorded at project end, ensuring traceability and an audit account throughout, thereby allowing the railway to enter into service quickly, efficiently but above all safely.

CEO of Comply Serve Chris Rolison said:

“We are delighted to be working with Laing O’Rourke on the Adelaide Electrification Project. We have developed ComplyPro as the ideal solution to manage compliance and assurance for large infrastructure projects.

“Being involved in such a major transport project for the South Australian government and Laing O’Rourke allows us to share our experience of similar projects around the globe.”
