For the second time in two years, Eurotunnel has won the IFW Environment Award, for its Leadership in Sustainable Development, from Europe’s leading transport and logistics periodical, International Freighting Weekly.

The panel of judges, all experts in their field within the transport and logistics sector, praised Eurotunnel’s environmental reporting, its continuous commitment to sustainable development initiatives and its willingness to seek outside validation for its achievements in both the UK and France.

Eurotunnel, the Concession holder for the Channel Tunnel has built on its previous success through a further 20% reduction in carbon emissions from increasing Freight Shuttle capacity and introducing electrically powered works trains; an increase in recycling of waste to more than 98%; the introduction of new simulators to teach Eco-Driving; the development of community recycling projects for mobile phones, distributing the money raised to local charities; the continuing promotion of bio-diversity on its terminals and land (winning a 7th consecutive Green Flag at Samphire Hoe); the engagement of both customers and staff in environmental programmes.

As she received the award at the ceremony in London on Wednesday evening, Jo Willacy, Eurotunnel’s Commercial Director said:

“This is a fantastic result for all the hard work that our teams put in every day. It is the commitment of our staff to ensuring that we meet our environmental goals that has got us here and it is great news for our customers, as that helps them to achieve their own targets”.
