Prestwick Town station is blooming lovely

A splash of brilliant colour has been added to late autumn at Prestwick Town station.

It follows more work on the floral displays and the window boxes at Prestwick Town by station ‘adopters’ Lorraine and Hugh McEvoy.

The couple, who run the station cafe, first introduced half-barrel planters on the station platforms in May this year under train operator ScotRail’s ‘adopt a station scheme.’

They have added window boxes and a garden since then – and keep topping up the floral displays.

The garden was created with the help of the Community Service programme and South Ayrshire Council, while Barr Environmental donated and delivered some seven tonnes of recycled compost.

Lorraine said: “We take a real pride in the station as a whole – it’s not just about serving food to customers. We’re very pleased with how it’s all looking.”

John Yellowlees, ScotRail’s external relations manager, said: “Lorraine and Hugh’s tenancy has proved to be a real winner.”
