Customers can now take advantage of a new, specially developed mobile version of the National Rail Enquiries (NRE) website to get updated timetables and the latest real-time information on how their train service is running.

The new mobile website has been designed to work with the latest generation of smartphones, allowing more and more passengers to plan their journey on the move, wherever they are, and wherever they want to go across the network.

Visitors to the new mobile site will be able to:

  • view live departure and arrival boards for all stations;
  • plan their journey using real-time journey information and view the latest timetable changes;
  • access station information, including opening hours and car park information.

The new mobile website is part of a long-term programme to improve the quality of information available to customers, particularly during periods of disruption.

The fastest growing way for people to contact NRE is now through their smartphone, with 85 times as many hits to the current mobile site than there were seven years ago when it was the first such rail website to be developed.

With the launch of the new NRE mobile site and recent official figures showing that almost one in three UK adults now use a smartphone, that popularity is set to keep on rising.

NRE is already the UK’s most popular destination for train and travel information.

Paid for and run by train companies, the website receives well over 1.5 million enquiries every weekday, helping millions plan and book their train travel.

Chris Scoggins, Chief Executive of NRE, said:

“With more and more people travelling around the network every day, the new mobile version of the NRE website gives passengers what they want, allowing them to access the latest real-time train running information at their fingertips.

“The new NRE mobile site is part of a wider programme to improve customer information, an area where we know we can always do more.

“People are changing the way they access the web, not only using PCs and laptops, but increasingly through mobile and tablet devices wherever they are.

“We continuously listen to customer feedback to ensure NRE remains the leading one-stop source of rail travel information in the UK and we’re confident this latest site for smartphone users will make it even easier for the growing number of people choosing to take the train to plan and manage their journey.”
