Indian Railways revenue up 10%

Indian Railways has registered a growth of 10.22% in earnings for the period of April-November 2011.

The rail operator reported an income of Rs. 66126.39 crore compared to Rs. 59994.24 crore during the same period last year.

From goods, Indian Railways earned Rs 43888.10 crore in April-November 2011 as against Rs. 39855.04 crore earned during the same period last year, registering an increase of 10.12%.

The total passenger revenue earnings during first eight months of the financial year increased by 9.67%.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 1860.46 crore during April- November 2011 compared to Rs. 1668.15 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 11.53%.

The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during April- November 2011 has increased by 5.24%.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during April-November 2011 was 2777.81 million and 2740.87 million showing an increase of 3.84% and 6.70% respectively when compared to last year.

Railways carried 618 million tonnes of revenue earning freight traffic during April-November 2011, registering an increase of 4.14% increase, against freight traffic of 593.44 million tonnes actually carried during the corresponding period last year.
