A barge is currently on the Brisbane River to undertake geotechnical investigations for Cross River Rail.

Work is progressing on the project and these investigations will be used to gain a better understanding of what lies beneath the Brisbane River.

The barge can be viewed throughout December, either from the Eastern side of the Botanical Gardens (west bank) or Lower River Terrace Park in Kangaroo Point.

The barge will move locations every few days starting from the Kangaroo Point side of the river.

Approximately 15 holes will be drilled into the river and each hole will be up to 60 metres deep.

Investigations will confirm the location and depth of the tunnels, which will be approximately 40 metres below sea level.

Cross River Rail is a proposed new underground rail line in Brisbane, Australia.

The project involves building a new 18 km railway under the Brisbane River and the Brisbane central business district, creating four new underground inner city stations, and increasing the core capacity of the rail network.
