The driver of a lorry carrying bales of hay has been arrested after it collided with a train on a level crossing in Carmarthenshire yesterday morning.

It is thought seven people on the train travelling from Milford Haven to Manchester suffered minor injuries.

British Transport Police said a 48-year-old man was being held on ‘suspicion of endangering safety’.

Arriva Trains Wales said just under 60 passengers were on board the 09:10 service when the crash happened at Llanboidy level crossing at around 09:55.

The train remained upright and on the tracks after it collided with the lorry.

British Transport Police’s Sector Commander for Wales, Chief Inspector Sandra England, said:

“Our investigation is continuing into the cause of the collision, including piecing together exactly how the vehicle came to be on the tracks at the time.

“As part of that investigation, the driver of the vehicle, a 48-year-old man from Llanboidy, Whitland, has been arrested on suspicion of endangering safety.

“He has been taken to a police station in Haverfordwest, where he is assisting my officers with their enquiries.”

The road on both sides of the level crossing is closed and all trains from Whitland to Fishguard and Milford Haven have been cancelled until further notice, with a replacement bus service for passengers.
