Rail passengers ‘injured after train hits tree’ in Perthshire

Two passengers have ‘suffered minor injuries after a train hit a tree on the line’ after storms in Perthshire.

The 06:47 Inverness to Edinburgh ScotRail service hit the tree near Dunkeld.

Following severe weather that has disrupted hundreds of services across the UK, Network Rail said an ‘unprecedented operation’ has been mounted to clear the rail network.

The accident meant that services between Inverness and Perth have been severely disrupted, although services have now resumed. ScotRail said delays may still occur.

Many of ScotRail’s services are still facing severe disruption because of the thousands of trees that have been blown over onto railway lines and ‘poor weather conditions’.
