Train operator raises money for Historic Churches Trust

Steve West of National Express East Anglia is celebrating after recently securing funding of £150 from the National Express Employee Charity Panel which has been donated to the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Historic Churches Trust.

The Trust was established in 1991 to raise funds to help the restoration and repair of churches and chapels in the counties of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Barnet.

Steve has been a long-time supporter of the Historic Churches Trust and often taken part in their annual ‘Bike and Hike’ events.

Steve is ‘delighted that his support for the Historic Churches Trust has been recognised by the National Express Charity Panel, raising the total level of sponsorship he collected on his bike ride to £376’.

James Donnan Head of Corporate Communications for National Express said:

“Churches and railways both have an important role to play at the heart of our local communities and National Express is pleased to recognise Steve’s work for the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Historic Churches Trust.”

Steve West began working on the railway at Welwyn Garden City station in 1979, during his career he has worked at a number of stations and depots.

Steve currently works in the National Express East Anglia, Control office as a train service manager.

The National Express Charity Panel helps support employees in their charitable work. The panel is made up of employees from around the National Express business, who meet quarterly to decide which good causes they will support.

The panel has given awards worth £20,064 to charity throughout 2011.
