Tunnel two on the North Island Main Trunk had overhead wiring replaced and a general tidy-up with the installation of drainage culverts.

4.4 km of new rail was also installed, along with 6,500 concrete sleepers.

General Manager Rick van Barneveld, said:

“This work alone is a significant achievement and the completion of it significantly contributes to our ongoing programme of improving the rail network so the reliability of our services increases.

“Despite some challenging weather during the works, some good progress was made, including some significant work on the upgrade of Kenepuru Station and major work on tunnel two on the Kapiti Line.”
