Thales has been awarded a signalling contract by rail operator SMRT Corporation Ltd for the North-South and East-West lines of Singapore’s Mass Rapid Transit system.

The contract is worth an estimated €118 million.

The two MRT lines are over 100km long combined and have 54 stations.

The Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA) has also awarded a €24 million contract for the signalling of the Tuas West Extension comprising 4 stations for the future East-West line extension.

The entire new signalling system is expected to be operational by 2018.

Mr Khoo Hean Siang, SMRT Executive Vice President for Trains, said:

“This is a massive project on a working line and will involve very close coordination between SMRT, Thales and the authorities. “
