Two graffiti vandals have been given anti-social behaviour orders (ASBOs) after causing £14,000 worth of damage across the rail network over 18 months.

Following an investigation by British Transport Police, David Broadbent (20) of Brighouse, and Paul Scott (18) of Bradford, were sentenced at Bradford Crown Court after attacking the rail network in West Yorkshire from January 2009 to June 2010.

Broadbent was given a ten-month jail sentence suspended for 18 months. He was also given a five-year ASBO and ordered to complete 300 hours of unpaid work.

Scott was given a five-year ASBO, a 12-month community order and must work 150 hours unpaid. He must also pay £500 compensation.

BTP detectives launched a specialist operation, codenamed Operation Retrograde, after CCTV footage showed the pair tagging a shop in Commercial Street, Leeds in April 2010.

The pair were arrested and cautioned but further investigation by detectives uncovered their tags – ‘MESIE’, ‘CROKE’, ‘GBH’, and ‘DB’ – on rail infrastructure in Huddersfield and up to Bradford.

The cost of damage to the infrastructure was estimated at £32,000, however when charges were dropped the damage was thought to be around £14,000.
