Southern has opened its first indoor cycle hub at Haywards Heath station, West Sussex.

The £300,000 project included the refurbishment and fit-out of a car valeting building that now has two-tier parking for 160 bicycles, secure lockers, a changing room and toilets.

For an annual subscription, cyclists will get to access these facilities plus a key-card which will allow them exclusive entry.

The new facility is also covered by CCTV which is beamed back to a 24-hour CCTV Control centre at Croydon.

Outside, there is free parking for 140 cycles and up to 100 motorcycles.

Southern’s Managing Director, Chris Burchell said:

“I’m delighted that we now have a fantastic facility at Haywards Heath for the growing numbers of cyclists and motorcyclists who are choosing to leave the car at home and get to the station in a much more sustainable way.

“The new hub also marks the 1500th additional bicycle parking space since the start of our franchise – a commitment we’ve completed on budget and almost two years early.”
