Network Rail is, for the fifth consecutive year, an Associate Sponsor together with category sponsor of the ‘Rail Person of the Year 2012’ at the RailStaff Awards.

The event, held in Birmingham in October 2012, focuses on the people who deliver the services and infrastructure essential to the UK railway, round the clock, 365 days a year.

Says Tom O’Connor, managing director, Rail Media, which runs the awards, ‘We are delighted to welcome Network Rail once again to the RailStaff Awards. This year’s event promises to be better and more popular than ever as the rail industry gathers to salute the courage and professionalism of those unsung heroes in our midst.’

The RailStaff Awards brings together men and women working in all areas of the industry and fosters a spirit of co-operation, openness and transparency, reflecting the core values of the emerging railway community.

This year’s event is even more relevant in the light of the formation of closer working alliances between Network Rail and train companies like SWT, Abellio Greater Anglia, c2c, ScotRail, Northern Rail and Southeastern. Moves by the rail industry to more closely align objectives will help end division and the costly split between fixed railway infrastructure and train operation.

The RailStaff Awards is a cross-industry response to old divisions and rivalries. Train drivers, route directors, station dispatchers and network operations staff join together to celebrate the courage and hard work of ordinary staff across the railway.

Network Rail join London Underground and The Rail Alliance as Associate Sponsors of the RailStaff Awards 2012. Nominations open on the 7th April 2012, along with the launch of a brand new website.
