RMT strike hits Heathrow Express services

Heathrow Express services are expected to suffer more disruption today as strikes take place by drivers and other members of staff in two different rows over disciplinary actions.

The RMT began a strike yesterday which it said was ‘rock solid’.

Members walked out for 24 hours yesterday lunchtime which meant Heathrow Express had to run an amended service.

Fewer services than normal are expected to run until the strike ends later today. Another strike is set to take place on 11 March.

Heathrow Express said it was ‘disappointed’ with the industrial action.

RMT General Secretary Bob Crow said

“It is crystal clear that the attack on Liaqat Ali and RMT at Heathrow Express is part of a wider campaign to smash strong union organisation in the airport industry and RMT will fight it all the way.

“The rock solid strike action by our members on HEX shows that RMT has the strength and determination to take on the BAA/ Heathrow Express bosses in the fight to defend solid trade union organisation.”
