Alstom, in a consortium with J&P Avax and Ghella, has been awarded a contract to supply the extension of Line 3 of the Athens metro by Attiko Metro.
Valued at €344 million, construction will be funded by the European Union and the Greek government.
The project comprises a 7.6 km extension of Line 3 of the Athens metro, including six new stations, and is expected to be completed by 2017.
The extension will mean the major Greek port of Piraeus will be connected to Eleftherios Venizelos international airport.
The line is set to serve 135,000 passengers a day and reduce travelling time by 60 minutes.
Alstom, whose share of the contract is worth around €32 million, will undertake responsibility for the design and installation of the traction power, including third rail, the medium voltage supply and the distribution of low voltage.
